Departing from Hangzhou East Railway Station
- Getting in. Departures are on 2F. Lines 1 and 4 Exits C and D come up at the West Square end, nearest gates 1-15; Exits A and E at the East Square end, nearest gates 16-28. Use the staffed lane at the ID check and at the gate. The passport you booked with is your ticket: use the staffed lane, where it is checked against your booking, unless signs say the automatic gates take passports.
- Security. Bags go through an X-ray right after the ID check, and you walk through a scanner.
- The waiting hall. One long 2F hall with gates 1 to 28 from west to east; A gates are on the north side and B gates on the south. Find your train number on the departure boards; boarding usually starts 15 to 20 minutes before departure and the gate closes a few minutes before.
- The platform. Your coach number (车厢) is printed on the floor markings and over the doors; stand at yours, as trains stop only briefly.
Food: Chain fast food and coffee on the 2F mezzanine.
Left luggage: Lockers on the B1 arrivals level, plus staffed left-luggage counters near both squares.
Arriving at Hangzhou East Railway Station
Arrivals come out on B1, which connects to both metro stations, the taxi lanes and the car parks.
Taxi and Didi: Taxi lanes are on B1 on the north and south sides, signed 北 and 南 with numbers. Ride-hail (网约车) pickup is in the car parks (P1 on the East Square side, P6 on the West Square side), so check which one your app shows.
Tips
- Line 19 runs to Xiaoshan Airport in about 25 minutes from the East Square metro stop.
- Changing between Lines 1/4 and Lines 6/19 means leaving the metro and walking about 360 m along the arrivals level.
- A ticket that says just 杭州 means Hangzhou Station in the city, not Hangzhou East (杭州东). Hangzhou West (杭州西) is another station.
