Departing from Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station

  1. Getting in. Departures are on 2F, reached from the drop-off ramps or by escalator up from the B1 metro level. There are entrances on all four sides; use the staffed lane at the ID check and at the gate. The passport you booked with is your ticket: use the staffed lane, where it is checked against your booking, unless signs say the automatic gates take passports.
  2. Security. Bags go through an X-ray right after the ID check, and you walk through a scanner.
  3. The waiting hall. One long hall on 2F with about 30 numbered gates, each with an A side (north) and a B side (south). Gates 1-9 are at the east end and 20-30 at the west end. Find your train number on the departure boards; boarding usually starts 15 to 20 minutes before departure and the gate closes a few minutes before.
  4. The platform. Your coach number (车厢) is printed on the floor markings and over the doors; stand at yours, as trains stop only briefly.

Food: Chain fast food and coffee on 2F and the 3F mezzanine, and more on B1.

Left luggage: Left luggage on B1 near the metro, and lockers and counters by some gates on 2F.

Arriving at Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station

Arrivals come out on B1, the same level as the metro, buses, taxis and car parks.

Taxi and Didi: Taxi ranks are on B1 at the north and south sides; follow 出租车 / Taxi signs. Ride-hail (网约车) cars pick up in the underground car parks.
